Frequently Asked Questions | The Dojo | Uechi-ryu Karate | Eishin-ryu Iaido

The Dojo in Denton, TX

How old is The Dojo?

The Dojo was begun in October of 1996.

Why was it started?

It was felt that Denton needed a place to present true, legitimate, traditional Japanese arts.

What is taught at The Dojo?

Uechi-ryu karate, Eishin-ryu iaido, jodo and Aikido

What are the differences and what is best for me?

You will find a general explanation of karate and iaido on this site and recommended links. Aikido at The Dojo, and jodo, can be discussed by the teacher, Jack Bieler.

Is it expensive?

No. We have kept costs down purposefully.

Are there hidden costs?

No. Required are monthly tuition, yearly association dues, and uniform costs. All will be explained clearly before anything is signed or any money changes hands.

Does this mean that instruction is second class?

Absolutely not. The money driven commercial martial arts school is a western invention. The Dojo tries to preserve both the spirit and the methods of Japanese instruction, proven effective through centuries, not only a couple of decades.

Are there any age restrictions?

At present we are only accepting students 13 years of age or older.

Can I watch or practice in a class before signing up?

We encourage all visitors to watch a class and participate in a class before deciding. If still undecided, please talk to the instructor about more trial practices.

Why should I learn at The Dojo?

If you are looking for substance instead of package, something real, not modified by whim or martial art "fashion", something to truly change your life for the better. Join us.
